Angelique C. McGlotten, founder of Heart In Heaven

Founder

Angelique C. McGlotten

Founding story

A vision planted. A call answered. A homecoming that deepened the fire.

Not a boardroom idea. A burden carried for years.

Angelique C. McGlotten was born and raised in Liberia, West Africa. At fifteen, a coup d’état forced her family to flee the country she loved and begin again in the United States.

She built a life an ocean away, but Liberia never stopped being home.

Long before Heart In Heaven had a name, God was doing a quiet work in her heart. Through Scripture, He was reshaping what she treasured, deepening her understanding of biblical stewardship, and enlarging her compassion for people living in spiritual and material poverty.

Angelique had always loved to give. But over time, generosity became something more: a growing conviction that what God entrusts to us can become a means of opening doors, restoring dignity, creating opportunity, and helping change the trajectory of lives.

Then, on September 12, 2020, the vision for Heart In Heaven was deposited in her heart.

On an otherwise ordinary Saturday afternoon, Angelique found herself at her computer, capturing the ideas and rough plans God was laying before her.

But she did not rush ahead.

For nearly a year, she prayed, researched, waited, and sought God’s direction. Her heart was already full of compassion, but she wanted to be certain she was not simply responding to the strength of her own emotions. She wanted to know that this was God’s leading and to move in His timing.

Then came the time to move. And she answered.

Heart In Heaven was founded in September 2021 as an expression of that yes: a Christ-centered mission committed to helping create pathways out of poverty through compassion, discipleship, education, opportunity, and sustainable transformation.

In March 2022, Angelique returned to Liberia with her family for the first time in decades.

It was a long-awaited dream come true: to return with those dearest to her and see her husband and the children entrusted to them by God plant their feet on Liberian soil, the homeland from which their wife and mother hailed.

For Angelique, it was more than a return. It was a homecoming. And sharing that moment with her family made it all the more meaningful.

But it was also deeply sobering.

She encountered children without adequate access to education, families struggling beneath the weight of poverty and unemployment, and communities rich in resilience, ability, and potential but constrained by too few opportunities.

What she saw did not create the call. It intensified it.

The needs she had carried in her heart were no longer distant realities. They had faces. Places. Stories. The desire to help Liberians had brought her home; what she encountered there made the work feel even more urgent.

Heart In Heaven received its 501(c)(3) designation in April 2022, and the vision continued taking shape around a conviction that remains central today: poverty should never have the final word over a person’s dignity, potential, or future.

Children deserve the opportunity to learn. Families deserve pathways toward sustainable flourishing. Communities deserve investment that strengthens rather than diminishes their agency.

For Angelique, generosity is far more than giving something away. It is love put to work:

Generosity is a lever of love that lifts others out of desperate circumstances.

That belief continues to shape Heart In Heaven’s approach.

Generosity can open a classroom door. Place a marketable skill into someone’s hands. Create access where opportunity has been scarce. Strengthen a family. Equip a community. Help someone move from dependence toward greater agency and sustainable opportunity.

And when generosity flows from Christ-centered compassion and is joined with the wisdom and leadership of people rooted in the communities they serve, it can become part of lasting transformation.

What began as God’s quiet work in one woman’s heart became an act of obedience: a mission to help restore what poverty tries to steal: opportunity, dignity, hope, and the ability to imagine and build a different future.

Heart In Heaven exists so that compassion does not stop at feeling and generosity does not stop at giving.

We want love to travel all the way into another human life.

And through it all, Heart In Heaven seeks to make the love of Christ visible, not merely in what we say, but in what His love, expressed through open hands, can make possible in the lives of others.

May lives be transformed. May hope arise.

And may God receive the glory.
